Pronunciation
As much as Cait Sith is difficult to pronounce, Reeve Tuesti, by contrast, is much simpler.
Reeve is pronounced exactly as it's written. Tuesti looks as thought it might be a little more difficult, but it's just as easy: too-ess-tii. Following this, the written Japanese
version fits just about perfectly with the English pronunciation:
, or riibu tuesuti.
Origins
The meaning of a character's name can often give insight on the character, and such is the case with Reeve. Reeve means "bailiff", which is defined as a person who is entrusted with certain duties, usually those relating to law. This fits right in with Reeve's character. As a high-ranking official in the Shinra Electrical Company, Reeve in entrusted with the task of developing the city of Midgar, as well as looking after all other urban concerns. During the reign of the first president, Reeve is the one most often trusted with tasks than even Scarlet, Heidegger or Palmer are. The president trusts him explicitly, giving him one of the most trying jobs he could give anyone in the company: that of a spy, who pretends to be a friend to Shinra's enemy, AVALANCHE, all the while remaining loyal to Shinra (ironically, a task he eventually fails at).
Reeve's last name, however, seems to come from absolutely nowhere. An extensive search of the name brought up nothing. But given the fact that many of the new characters in Dirge of Cerebus seem to have had their names pulled out of nowhere, such could be the case for "Tuesti".
